RENEWING THE CALIFORNIA MASTER CATECHIST CERTIFICATE (Advanced)

In order to renew their California Master Catechist Certificate, Master Catechists must complete annual on-going training and formation. Over the three-year period in which their certification is valid, they must complete at least 2 credit hours of coursework in three of the following areas: 1) spiritual formation, 2) intellectual (especially theological) formation, 3) pastoral formation (including methodological formation), or 4) human formation. If a course is worth less than two credit hours, multiple courses in the same area of formation may be taken to achieve the required minimum of two credit hours.

Before the certification expires, the catechist should complete and submit the application for renewal and include details of the formation courses taken. In addition, each applicant will be asked to describe their recent catechetical ministry experience, including how they have actively mentored other catechists. References should be provided.

Once the application is received, the applicant will be invited to an interview with the diocesan team before a final decision to renew is made
