Diocesan Specializations
What is a specialization?

A ministry specialization includes additional formation and training in a particular area of ministry. In specialization courses, you will have a chance to study Church documents that are specifically related to a particular ministry, such as catechesis or youth ministry. In addition, you will also be introduced to practices and skills that will help you as a minister.
MFI works with our institutional partners as well as with some diocesan departments to provide specialization courses. If you desire even more specific training and accompaniment, you can contact the diocesan office that is most closely related to your area of ministry.
There are two levels of specialization. Basic-level specializations meet the requirements for PMFP, and advanced specializations meet the requirements for CMFP. It is recommended that you do not begin a basic specialization prior to completing PMFP and that you do not begin an advanced specialization until you have completed at least two years of CMFP. If you complete a basic-level specialization course prior to completing PMFP, you may be asked to retake the course or take an additional course.
How many specializations may I have or take?
You may specialize in as many areas of ministry as you like after you have completed the core theological formation offered in PMFP and CMFP. Some advanced specializations may require a particular basic-level specialization as a prerequisite, so please plan accordingly.
