RENEWING THE CALIFORNIA CATECHIST CERTIFICATE (Basic)
In order to renew their California Catechist Certificate, catechists must complete annual on-going training and formation. Over the three-year period in which their certification is valid, they must complete at least 2 credit hours of coursework in three of the following areas: 1) human formation, 2) spiritual formation, 3) intellectual (especially theological) formation, or 4) pastoral formation (including methodological formation). If a course is worth less than two credit hours, multiple courses in the same area of formation may be taken to achieve the required minimum of two credit hours. Before the certification expires, the catechist should complete and submit the application for renewal and include details of the formation courses taken. Courses taken for previous renewal cycles may not be retaken without good reason and the approval of the Director of the Ministry Formation Institute.
